How we evaluate products
Responsible Investment strategies, processes, practices and disclosures are assessed against the eight criteria for product certification in the Responsible Investment Standard and accompanying Guidance and Assessment Notes.
What are the requirements?
In order to certify products as certified responsible investments, RIAA assesses them against its RI Certification Standard. The Certification Standard is underpinned by eight requirements that act as the guiding principles of the RI Certification Program. Since its inception the RI Certification Standard has evolved significantly, reflecting the dynamic evolution of responsible investment. These eight requirements are:
- RI strategies are formal, disclosed, consistent, auditable and fit for purpose
- Labels are clear, honest and not misleading
- Product avoids significant harm
- Discloses full holdings, performance, sustainability outcomes and engagement and voting practices
- Managed by active stewards, and managers can detail the stewardship practices and outcomes
- Organisation has formal commitment to responsible investment
- Organisation provides educational information to members and customers about RI strategies

Overview
The Sustainable Balanced and Sustainable High Growthoptions specifically seek to invest in companies that areconsidered ESG leaders or meet certain ESG criteria, while also screening out companies with materialexposure to specific industries as detailed on page 24.
These three investment options invest across a rangeof asset classes. To identify investments, we use thirdparty research to apply a negative screen to companieswhose reported revenues have:
> 10% fossil fuel exploration and production
> 5% gambling, alcohol or tobacco
> 1% manufacture and sale of weapons and
> 10% aggregated revenue from any of the above.
Description
This product is responsible/Sustainable as it screens out companies that generate more than 5% of their revenues from products that are widely accepted as being harmful to individuals and/or the climate. The screened sectors include alcohol, gaming, fossil fuel exploration and production, and weapons (in addition to the fund wide exclusion on tobacco production). In addition we also assess companies that are in breach of the UN Global Compact. This option also invests in bonds and equities that target social and environmental solutions. Â
