How we evaluate products
Responsible Investment strategies, processes, practices and disclosures are assessed against the eight criteria for product certification in the Responsible Investment Standard and accompanying Guidance and Assessment Notes.
What are the requirements?
In order to certify products as certified responsible investments, RIAA assesses them against its RI Certification Standard. The Certification Standard is underpinned by eight requirements that act as the guiding principles of the RI Certification Program. Since its inception the RI Certification Standard has evolved significantly, reflecting the dynamic evolution of responsible investment. These eight requirements are:
- RI strategies are formal, disclosed, consistent, auditable and fit for purpose
- Labels are clear, honest and not misleading
- Product avoids significant harm
- Discloses full holdings, performance, sustainability outcomes and engagement and voting practices
- Managed by active stewards, and managers can detail the stewardship practices and outcomes
- Organisation has formal commitment to responsible investment
- Organisation provides educational information to members and customers about RI strategies

Description
Our investment process is measuring ‘Aroha Connection’. In essence we are measuring behaviours. We measure the transition of companies from;• the ‘substantive’, internally focused, self-absorbed behaviours,
• to the indigenous ideal of ‘Relational’, externally connected, collective, compassionate behaviours.
We put the environment before people, people before profit and the collective before the individual. What this simply means in practice is; that companies must first pass our non-financial measures before they can be considered for investment.
We have developed our own taxonomy. We use ethical and sustainable screens in selecting investments, for which Māori indigenous values, and eithcs serve as the foundation.
Our first fund is TAHITO Te Tai o Rehua, it is an Australasian equities fund. Te ‘Tai o Rehua’ is the Māori name for the Tasman Sea, the body of water between Australia and New Zealand.
The TAHITO system favours companies that:• Display connectivity & value relationships
• Serious about their ethics
• Hold people & environment in high priority
• Care for and give back to the community
• Have long term sustainable growth potential
High scoring companies;• Set clear and achievable sustainability targets
• Understand and measure their ‘externalities’
• Adopt credible sustainability reporting systems
• Are transparent with and accountable for their non-financial measures
• Demonstrate how they intend to reduce or better these measures
• Have incorporated or are moving toward circular economy principles
