In our June Impact Management & Measurement Community of Practice workshop, we explored what constitutes leading practice in impact reporting, hearing from Bluemark Tideline’s Christina Leijonhufvud on their recent Raising the Bar study.

Our second meeting for 2022 included a special presentation by Fauve Kurnadi, Legal Adviser at the Australian Red Cross, and Jonathan Kolieb, Senior Lecturer in Law at RMIT University, who presented their research on how the financial sector can incorporate International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in their due diligence process.

Australia’s National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme is “Be Brave. Make Change.” RIAA’s National Reconciliation Week event showcased investing in the Indigenous economy and First Nations equity.

RIAA had the pleasure of hosting a special session with Peter Morris, General Manager, Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Program, and Billie Amor, RAP Program Officer, at Reconciliation Australia, who unpacked how investors can begin their RAP journey. Their presentation was complemented with practical insights from RIAA members, Julia Bailey (Melior IM) and Natasha Morris (Adamantem), who shared how their own organisations are approaching reconciliation. This meeting also included several updates, including Dhawura Ngilan Business and Investor Initiative and the First Nations Heritage Protection Alliance.

The workshops covered: definitions within the Framework; The climate and nature-nexus (including touching on the work of the Taskforce for Climate Related Financial Disclosures – TCFD);

What do consumers really think about responsible investment? What is on retail investors’ minds as they are choosing an investment product? And which issues do they care most about?

Our first meeting included an exclusive deep-dive into the draft Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosure framework which was released in mid-march.

Our first meeting for 2022 included a special presentation by Jill Houghton, President and CEO, and Brian Horn, COO of Disability: IN who presented the financial benefits of disability inclusion and their research with Accenture ‘Getting to Equal: the disability inclusion advantage. In this meeting we also had a presentation by Freya Dinshaw, Senior Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre who presented their research report ‘Paper Promise? Evaluating the early impact of Australia’s Modern Slavery Act’.
