Responsible Investment NZ Consumer Study 2020
More than three-quarters (78%) of New Zealanders with KiwiSaver or other investments believe that ethical or responsible investments perform better in the long term, new research commissioned by the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) and Mindful Money has revealed.
The study shows strong growth in the demand for responsible investments, with 93% of the New Zealanders who do not already consider that they invest ethically or responsibly, saying they intend to do so, most of them in the next year.
New Zealanders want to avoid investing in companies that do not reflect their values – human rights violations and labour rights abuses top the list, followed closely by environmental degradation.
